Lily has developed a unique approach to making art. She starts by drawing patterns of stenciled shapes on heavy paper. Then she applies many layers of colored pencil, black pen, and transparent tape until the work has the dense black and luminous color she is after. The small shapes of bright color in a field of black, all covered with a patchwork of angular bits of transparent tape, results in an effect reminiscent of stained-glass windows. The process is very slow, which is fine with Lily. Her pleasure in the meticulous process is evident in her sweet, cheerful attitude in the studio.
